21st Century sleep…

Great Solutions 11 August 2011

Modern life is increasingly stressful and busy and this is without doubt having a negative affect on the way we sleep. More hours at the office mean less time with our children, which in turn means less time with our friends. To fit in extra work, extra playtime and extra socialising we are sacrificing our down time but at what cost?

Our lives have become bustling metropolises’ of technology, noise and pollution so when are we finding the time to sleep?

It is true to say that some of us use our much needed hours of sleep to catch up with friends or catch up with more work, yet we know that a good nights sleep is essential to our health and well being
It is long been said that 8 uninterrupted hours is the key to a good nights sleep but evidently people are scraping by on five or six, if not less. The pace of modern life is unnatural and we are finding it harder and harder to switch off at the end of the day.

The majority of people can say they have at least once lain awake with the world ticking over in their head; despite feeling overwhelmed with exhaustion. Learning how to wind down can only have a positive effect on our lives. Being well rested will lead to smoother running days, calmer dispositions and an all-together healthier outlook (poor sleep patterns have been proven to make you look older, weaken your immune system and increase your appetite).

We now have televisions in our bedrooms, multiple computers in the house, laptops that we switch on the moment we get home from work, all leaving us with very little time to relax and unwind.
It is increasingly more common for people to eat better and exercise but the way we sleep seems to have been left behind in the health drive. De-modernising the bedroom may be the key to better sleep. Remove your television and your computer and take your bedroom back to what it is really about, your bed.

A relaxed environment will increase your ability to forget about the day you’ve had and concentrate on the night ahead. Dim the lights and have a bath, read a book, anything that doesn’t require your mind to continue working overtime.

These are simple rules that we need a gentle nudge to remember and put in place. For more information visit dreams.co.uk and check out the fantastic beds for sale at great prices.
